Avatar sex

When former Marine Jake Sully drapes his sinewy blue body around Na'vi bride Neytiri in James Cameron's mega-blockbuster Avatar, their neural tendrils fuse with each other in one of the most unusual sex scenes ever produced on film. It's been a source of fascination for viewers and scholars, whose discussions range from the film's just-war doctrine to its environmental ethics. But it's the Tantric dimension of the film that I want to talk about.

The Na'vi people are a mythological race of blue humanoids from the fictional planet Pandora, which they inhabit using their avatars - which are essentially sophisticated virtual-reality embodiments of their physical bodies. In the movie, we learn that the Na'vi people have normal genitals just like humans and are able to reproduce sexually. The film's plot also implies that the Na'vi are able to connect their wire-like queues, which represent their genitals, with each other during the tsaheylu mating ritual. This intertwining of queues is meant to be both erotic and spiritual, but does not equate to sexual reproduction, but is rather a way for the partners to share an enhanced experience together during a bonding process.

Sex game with avatars

As the film's sequel, Avatar 2, opens this week, it is important to understand that the Na'vi's ability to bond with each other through their avatars is a key component of their community's ethos and culture. It is through these bonded relationships that the Na'vi create their social identities, build their self-esteem, and find happiness. However, what is often overlooked is the sexy aspects of avatar sex.

There are many reasons why the sexy hair-sex scene in Avatar was removed from the theatrical release of the film, and a lot of fans have feared that there has been some sort of a Mandela Effect with the movie's rerelease. However, this is not the case, and there was a good reason for the removal of the scene.

Virtual sex avatar

In the original theatrical cut of the film, the pair only kiss and get fairly intimate before the scene cuts to the following morning. They didn't, however, actually join their ponytails together in the way that we all imagined when we watched the rerelease. The sexy moment was included in the extended version of Avatar sex released a few months after the first film's release, and was also available on DVD and Blu-ray.

This extended version includes the infamous sexy moment in which the couple's avatars intertwine their sexy, thorny, tendrils during the tsaheylu ritual. It is a powerfully sensual and spiritual scene, and it is the kind of thing that would have been perfect for an extended-length film. But as a short, it was just a little too racy for the mainstream audience, so Fox decided to cut it out of the theatrical release. This is a shame, but the reason behind it is not as interesting or controversial as the fact that the sexy moment was removed from the movie in the first place.
